NY Times article on using iPods to receive college lecture content

This week, I heard from folks in two districts about how their district had banned the use of all personal technologies in school buildings.  (I had to wonder … does the Board surrender its cell phones when it holds meetings?)

One frustrated teacher said, “Does the Board think we’re that afraid to say, ‘Please turn it off’?”

How do we reconcile this ban with the increasing number of colleges and universities that are embracing mp3 players and iPods as a means of sharing lecture content, as shown in this New York Times article from Saturday?  How do we get college prep kids “prepped” for university if our teaching methods are no longer compatible?

Not sure … but in the meantime, I’m forwarding this article to them.
