International Children’s Digital Library - Ann Carlson Weeks Keynote at IASL

Have you checked out the updated ICDL site? If not, it’s worth spending some meaty time there.  We have a total of four presentations at IASL today that show how the ICDL is providing international books to schools around the world.  One of the fascinating aspects is the child-friendly search (yes, you can search by the color of the book title — at last!) that does not require text typing.

Think about giving your ELL students books in their native language, having foreign language books for your foreign language teachers, or doing a “big book” storytime by connecting your laptop to a data projector.  Has your book acquisition budget dwindled? Think about how you might use these digitized books to supplement your collection.

So many possibilities!

The middle school in our district has one year for Western Global studies and one for Eastern Global. These books would be a nice way for the kids to see what children read in those studied countries.
