Staff Meeting on NETS*S #1: Creativity and Innovation

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

This morning, our staff discussed the NETS*S Standard #1: Creativity and Innovation.  It’s important to recognize that merely offering students a creative tool is not the intent of the standard.  In full, the standard reads:

NETS*S #1: Creativity and Innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.  Students:

  • Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes.
  • Create original works as a means of personal or group expression.
  • Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues.
  • Identify trends and forecast possibilities.

We wanted to spend some time thinking about this standard to make sure we were thinking deeply about creative thinking and the need for revision when the first plan doesn’t turn out as needed.  You can view the PowerPoint here

We’re also launching a faculty book club on Dan Pink’s A Whole New Mind.

Have you used Picnik’s online photo editor?

picnik_screenshots.jpg   I haven’t yet,but if you have, will you leave a comment? Picnik, which I heard about on a blog recently, appears to be a photo editor that’s completely online and that edits photos that have already been posted to Facebook, Picasa Web Albums, Photobucket, Webshots, Flickr, and more. I’m a pretty big Picasa fan, but perhaps this would help with on-the-fly edits? Something to think about during this holiday vacation!Image from Picnik home page

Headed to Midwinter

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I’m headed to the airport for Midwinter in a few minutes … hope to see some of you in Denver! Denver’s unusually warm weather is going to be a big relief from the nippy weather (and accompanying indoor recess!) we’ve been having here in Michigan.
