MACUL Conference 2009

Friday, March 20th, 2009

The 2009 Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) conference in Detroit has just come to a close.  Last time I attended MACUL, two years ago, we were just on the cusp of thinking about Web 2.0 in practice.  Now, we’re seeing the second or third round of new tools.

Last time I attended, I liveblogged my notes.  But this time, I tried something different.  Since so many of the tools are now online, I kept track of the items referred to in my Delicious account, adding my notes to the comments field.   I tagged all of them with “macul09.”  By doing so, Delicious automatically generates a list of my conference-related entries.  For a reminder of some classic 2.0 tools and some new sites to explore, visit:

Hard to believe that this nibbling creature has hit the Big 4-0.

Here’s an interview with Eric Carle from The Guardian (UK).

Watch a video of Carle discussing his collage technique for the book.

See Penguin’s official VHC activity kit.

Even Google is celebrating with a VHC-inspired logo … fabulous.

Beautiful artwork in school libraries (NYTimes)

The Robin Hood Foundation is commissioning artists to add murals to New York school libraries.  Fabulous. But I wonder what this means when they mention “a P.S. 47 teacher who has been retrained with the foundation’s help to become the school’s librarian”? I wonder what that training consists of …. what the Foundation identified as the essential skills.   http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/14/arts/design/14mura.html#
