Lankes on eReaders
A while back, I mentioned a publisher saying, “What is a digital book besides just a PDF?” It’s a question that’s haunted me since.
I thought about it again when I saw Boing Boing’s demo of the Marvel Comics iPad app and saw how Marvel was opening up the possibility that a comic might be read by seeing just one panel at a time.
And I’m still thinking about it as I read R. David Lankes’ “Ereaders, the iPad … is that all there is?” in School Library Journal this month. Lankes puts us in the driver’s seat to help imagine what a real digital book reader should be, something that goes beyond animations of page turns. Definitely worth a read!
