Controlled Chaos: A Day Working the Rikers Island Book Cart | The New York Public Library via kwout

I know some of us have moments when we think our school feels like a jail on those long it’s-not-summer-yet-but-the-kids-are-wild-and-when-are-they-turning-on-the-air-conditioning days.

But if you were Jamie Niehof, a University of Michigan School of Information student of mine, your school really was a jail.

Jamie spent her Alternative Spring Break interning for the New York Public Library and its program for librarianship in correctional institutions.  (You may remember Jamie from her amazing Shiver trailer I blogged about last term … if not, view it here.)

She blogged about her experience on the NYPL Blog (above).

Today, she emailed to say that her blog post was picked up by not one, but three outlets.  Heady stuff! Check it out here:

Jamie’s about to graduate.  After reading about infographic resumes, she gave it a whirl. Literally.

ADDED 4/22: Holy mackerel! Now the story has made it to The New Yorker!
