From Deb Biggs Thomas at the Michigan eLibrary:

Just one last reminder from me to come to MeL Users Day on April 27th at the Radisson Hotel in Lansing!  You will definitely want to hear our keynote, Sue Davidsen, affectionately known by me and me alone, as MeL’s Mom ;-)  We are very fortunate to have Sue with us all the way from Minnesota!  Karren Reish and IÂ
will then be talking about our recent MeL Study which includes some very interesting public opinion about libraries in general, and we need public service librarians in particular to help us test the MeLÂ
Database survey which will be going live via SurveyMonkey very soon. Of course there will be a full program of MeLCat in the afternoon! For more information including registration go to https://members.mcls.org/workshops/viewcourse.html?id=202

Sue used to work at SI when I was a student there. She led a terrific Saturday course on beginning HTML coding that I use to this day.  Don’t miss her if you can get the day off!

Controlled Chaos: A Day Working the Rikers Island Book Cart | The New York Public Library via kwout

I know some of us have moments when we think our school feels like a jail on those long it’s-not-summer-yet-but-the-kids-are-wild-and-when-are-they-turning-on-the-air-conditioning days.

But if you were Jamie Niehof, a University of Michigan School of Information student of mine, your school really was a jail.

Jamie spent her Alternative Spring Break interning for the New York Public Library and its program for librarianship in correctional institutions.  (You may remember Jamie from her amazing Shiver trailer I blogged about last term … if not, view it here.)

She blogged about her experience on the NYPL Blog (above).

Today, she emailed to say that her blog post was picked up by not one, but three outlets.  Heady stuff! Check it out here:

Jamie’s about to graduate.  After reading about infographic resumes, she gave it a whirl. Literally.

ADDED 4/22: Holy mackerel! Now the story has made it to The New Yorker!
