Search and Evaluation Literacy :: Tune Into the Archive!

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Please consider tuning into the archived version of Steve Hargadon’s latest Future of Education Webinar. The topic was search literacy, which included discussions of source evaluation. Guests were Tasha Bergson-Michelson, Google’s Search Education Fellow, Debbie Abilock of NoodleTools and consulting (and co-editor of the book on librarians as professional developers that I’m working on), and Jole Seroff, Director of Library and Academic Technology at Castilleja School in Palo Alto, California.

You can view the webinar recording or download it as an mp3.

I’m downloading it now for the commute home tonight, as a meeting precluded me from hearing the first half.

This article is a must-read and must-share article. It points out that students aren’t the thoughtful searchers their “digital native” moniker might show them to be. And because it comes from a cool, high-tech, popular journal outside the field of library publications, it’s great to put in your advocacy toolkit!

Finding Google Advanced Search

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

You may have noticed that Advanced Search no longer appears on the main Google screen. Fear not — it’s moved but not gone.

To find it, click on the cog icon in the top-right corner of the Google screen, as shown in the screenshot below. (Click to enlarge the screenshot)
