Finding Google Advanced Search

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

You may have noticed that Advanced Search no longer appears on the main Google screen. Fear not — it’s moved but not gone.

To find it, click on the cog icon in the top-right corner of the Google screen, as shown in the screenshot below. (Click to enlarge the screenshot)

An unlikely alternative to Google Wonder Wheel

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Many of us mourned the departure of Google Wonder Wheel. It did so much to scaffold student thinking as they were trying to think of how to narrow down broad topics (World War II in a five-page report, anyone)?

Mariah, one of my intrepid students, found that there remains a Google Wonder Wheel alternative. Strangely enough, it runs through Google Ad Words. Take a look. Could be a decent stand-in for your students.

Mariah let the class know about this by posting to our class Diigo group. I am loving how students are sharing their class-related findings with one another. I get alerted to new sources I didn’t know about, too!

Farewell, Google Wonder Wheel!

WonderWheel, which helped users see related searches in Google, has been removed from the site. More from Gary Price at Search Engine Land.

Bummer Summer, peeps.
