$10/month Internet and a $150 computer for low-income families
Wednesday, September 21st, 2011Yesterday, Comcast and the FCC launched a plan called Internet Essentials (English site / Spanish site). Families with at least one child on free and reduced lunch will qualify for a low-speed Internet connection at $9.95 a month and will be eligible to buy a $150 computer. Free training will be available, and the rate is guaranteed for three years.
If you or your school is in a qualifying community, sharing this information with colleagues, neighbors, or families could be a tremendous help in narrowing at least part of the digital divide in the homes of the nearly 4.5 million children receiving free or reduced lunch.
